Important Changes to Wound Care Services

Posted on October 14th, 2024

At Marsden Medical Group, we strive to provide the highest level of care for all our patients. Due to increasing demands on our nursing team and financial constraints, we are no longer able to offer wound care services that are not funded by the NHS. Continuing to provide unfunded services puts pressure on our ability to deliver core General Practice services, which remain our priority.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • Post-Operative Wound Care: We will no longer be able to provide post-operative wound care for patients. This applies to both NHS and private services, including post-surgical, dermatology procedures, and urgent care treatments. You will need to arrange wound care directly with the hospital or clinic where the procedure took place.
  • Trauma or Injury-Related Wounds: We are unable to offer wound care for injuries resulting from trauma or accidents, as we are not contracted to handle Minor Injuries. Please seek care at a Minor Injuries Unit or another appropriate service for these types of wounds.
  • Ongoing Wound Care: If you are already receiving wound care from us, you will continue to receive treatment for a maximum of 14 days. If your wound does not show significant improvement within this period, we will refer you to a specialist wound hub for further care. If your wound is healing well, we will discharge you with dressings for self-care. For those unable to manage their own wound care, we will arrange for support from the local District Nursing service.
  • Care for Housebound Patients: If you are housebound, the District Nursing service will provide your post-operative wound care. This should be organized by the hospital at the time of your discharge.

We understand these changes may cause some inconvenience, but they are necessary to ensure we can continue providing essential GP services. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
