Technical Changes to How We Work

As you may be aware, Marsden Road Health Centre and Wawn Street Surgery have been working as one organisation for more than four years.  We recently received approval from NHS England to merge the two practices’ IT systems and contracting arrangements.  This work commenced on 1 April 2024 and completed on 15 April 2024.  To do this, we needed to create a new umbrella organisation known as “Marsden Medical Group”.  Marsden Medical Group is run by the same people as Wawn Street Surgery and Marsden Road Health Centre.  It is, for all intents and purposes, the same organisation.

Why did we do this?

To simplify our processes and increase efficiency by reducing the amount of time and money we spend on administration.  Managing two separate IT systems and contracts takes extra work and creates administrative difficulties, and now we don’t have to do that.

What Does This Mean for Patients?

There is little to no change for patients.  The services we provide and the people who provide them remain unchanged, Wawn Street Surgery remains open, and it is business as usual.

Why Have I Received an SMS Message Informing Me That My GP Surgery Has Changed?

Unexpectedly, when Wawn Street Patients were moved over to the new umbrella organisation, “Marsden Medical Group”, the NHS decided to inform patients that they have been ‘moved’ to a ‘new surgery’ which has created a great deal of confusion.

Am I Still a Patient at Wawn Street Surgery?

Yes.  You are still a patient at Wawn Street, you can still access precisely the same services in the same place at the same time and provided by the same people.
